Author: Anastasjia White
Couple: Nevaeh Lawrence & Roman Pashkevich
Tropes: hockey romance, fake dating, roommate romance, forced proximity, One night stand x Vegas wedding, frenemies to lovers, cinnamon roll MMC
Review: Breakaway left me in shambles! Anastasjia once again took us on an emotional journey within the hockey romance universe with a well earned HEA! Roman and Nevaeh were an emotional roller coaster that I never wanted to get off of but was also supremely happy with how it all ended. Seeing Roman fall HARD was a nice surprise and I enjoyed how Nevaeh was not as flaky as she seemed in previous books.
Nevaeh and Roman were a story of broken should finding each other. I appreciated how Anastasjia created their backstories in ways that they fed off the other. I was more attached to Roman in this book and the unraveling of the tragedy in his story broke my heart. The way he grew and moved on from his past showed his resilience and I adored how Nevaeh became the shoulder he could lean on when his demons got to be too much. I also loved how he also stood up for her at every turn.
This book is full of emotional baggage and turmoil. These two are the worst communicators but also a terrific match. I enjoyed seeing how they each overcame their pasts to be together all the while being accidentally married. This was truly a good take on the Vegas one night stand trope and I am excited to see the next hockey man fall!
Rating: 4/5, an uber emotional read with a satisfying HEA!
Thank you to Anastasjia for sending me this ARC!

This book is from Anastasija Whiteโs Sinners on the Ice series but can be read as a standalone. Our main couple meet at a club and are instantly attracted to one another. Unfortunately, sheโs taken and that is a huge no-no for our MMC. A bad breakup, loneliness, and an impromptu trip to Vegas change that, tossing these two into a situation where neither can deny their desire any longer.

Roman is our hockey-playing hero who is far more broken than he seems. Hockey is essentially his therapy, helping more ignore than deal with his inner turmoil. I really enjoyed the author describing not only the mental but the physical toll of guilt and grief. Kudos to the author on this one.
Neveah is a columnist for a magazine. Our girl is a people-pleaser who is struggling at the beginning of this book. Given her upbringing, itโs no wonder she doesnโt trust marriage in general, but she also doesn't seem to trust her own instincts. Included in this is frustratingly not realizing truly obvious signs in certain situations.
Luckily, though, by the end of their story, these two find their footing and their peace together.
Iโll be honest, there were several instances of a miscommunication trope I donโt necessarily care for used in this book, although given how the relationship starts, I can forgive/understand the first one. But I was not especially excited for the one toward the end. Of course, this is just a personal bias. I found Romanโs situation and story more compelling than Nevโs. For whatever reason, I didnโt personally connect with Nevโs character. But I did love the romance and the two of them as a couple. Overall, this was a nice, at times even poignant, hockey romance, and I really enjoyed Roman and Nevโs journey and where they ended up.

I kinda liked the plot but the time jumps weren't stamped and there was a lot so it kinda put you off after a while.
I liked the characters, liked that they communicated. I did not expect the plot twist but it was a good one, and I'm glad they worked it out.
