I enjoyed this thoroughly. It was a bit slow in the beginning but the ending really packed a punch. Good story about love and loss.

Beautiful story of denied love! Dual time line and written so very well!
This was a beautiful, heartbreaking book. A part of history I had not thought much about.
Historical fiction at its finest. The decisions made by Naoko (and for her) reverberate through the lives of her and Jimmy. When her father dies Tori has a few clues that she pieces together to solve and understand his past.
This was a sweet story told between today and 1957. It’s a lovely story of love, heartache, bravery and strength. I enjoyed the stories of decisions and life meanings when the book was wrote from Japan 1957. I felt the ending came rather quickly and would have enjoyed more context around Tori’s journey after learning all of her fathers history.
the way I know how the story would end but I cried nonetheless. Beautifully written as it is captured the idea of how Japanese were still trying to recover from World War II and their nationalism was being challenged because of America's infiltration thus It was common until now that foreigners have a bad image in Japan.
I wish I could have had liked the story, however I found it to be difficult at the second arc but it was a good read nevertheless.
