Holy cow this book was so good!! Beautiful language, great plot and a little bit of magic
I am speechless, it’s hard to put into words such a book as this. Moving, thought provoking, heart breaking, intense, captivating, addictive read. The writing is almost lyrical and so imaginative it’s beautiful, I love writers who can do this. An amazing book that will stay with you long after you read it.

I tried to get into this book after a friend mentioned it. I really did, but it is not my cup of tea. It's a coming of age story, with some things I don't care for, and some beautiful writing that then gets too wordy. The writer has promise, but this just wasn't the book for me.

very nice! i read this while i was in a mental clinic! lovely little story! excellent!
Quite an extraordinary book. It is brutal and draining in many parts, watching young Eli deal with a dysfunctional family, a traumatised brother, an abused mother, a damaged father - and that's just the tip of the ice berg in the suburban setting populated by drug users and warring dealers. It is also an inspiring book, watching Eli long to be a good man, even when there are so few of those he can use as role models. This book is also a page-turner so prepare for some sleepless nights.
This book was absolutely spellbinding. It was engrossing, raw, honest, beautiful, confronting, and I had to pace myself from finishing it too quickly to properly savour it.
Trent Dalton has a way of making the most mundane of scenes feel memorable & believable, like they’ve been pulled out of your own memories, and Boy Swallows Universe is a celebration of every gritty, wonderful thing that makes families love each other. It was a joy to live alongside Eli Bell, so deeply that I thought I could become him.
My only regret with this book is that I’ll never be able to read it for the first time, again.
