This book was so good it made me reevaluate all of my other 5 star ratings. I loved it.... The story, the characters, the writing style...all of it. Trent Dalton is definitely a "color writer", just like his main character.

Wonderful.

What a marvellous book. beautifully written, compelling and just slightly odd this book had me hooked from the enigmatic beginning to the fast paced, satisfying end. I had the good fortune of reading this while I was on holiday in Brisbane (fortunately not the 1980s dodgy Brisbane of the novel) and it added a certain extra layer to my holiday. I highly recommend this book, even if you can't read it in the city where it is set.

I loved this book, blew my mind when i found out it was half truth and half fiction!

i was so surprised at the journey of this book- silly me i never really read the back of books so my assumption of the contents inside was based off of the cover and the recommendation of others. i thought i was stepping into some teen romance coming of age story but what i actually discovered was so much better. i love the connectivity of the book and how through all the twists and turns it truly is a story about a Queensland family. really really nice read !

Gostei muito da leitura, é impactante, é real, é poética, um grande mix de sentimentos que valem a pena serem vividos nessa leitura.

started from the bottom, now I'm here

This is a story about the Bell family, specifically Eli Bell, the waffler. The first half was quite slow since there is quite a lot of waffle, as I've already mentioned. Everything is quite fantastical since Eli has a very colourful mind. The language is simple but also quite poetic. The plot is fascinating but also quite confusing. It's actually hard to describe. It's a bildungsroman but not. It's a thriller but not. It's magical realism but not. I get why there's so much hype over this book. It's certainly unique, I'll admit that. I've even created my own game.

done. here's the link lmfao

Ok when my mum said books corrupt the mind she had a point. Just not in the way she envisioned it.

This is what talent is. Such beautiful writing. Gonna be a classic of this generation for sure.
