I liked these when I heard the author read, but here I wasn't into it for subjective reasons

This was an excellent collection, and I specifically recommend the audio book if you can do so!

Such a great read. I listened to the audiobook and the poems and narration were both wonderful and impactful. I would love to revisit this later with a physical copy to highlight my favorite lines and see how the poems are formatted alongside the narration.
Graphic: Racism and Racial slurs
Moderate: Slavery
Minor: Dementia

What can I even say about this book of poems? Nate Marshall's writing is beautiful and the way he uses form and language is genius.
I read these poems slowly, reading pages aloud to my family, texting pictures to my friends. I ordered a copy for my classroom and then sent one to my best friend in Texas. These are the poems I want my students analyzing.

An anthem for Blackness and Chicago with pain, love, everyday, ordinary, and hope for the future.
Thank you Tashay @booksontheel for recommending this book.
Thank you to my friend Addy for sending it to me after I lost my dog.
FINNA is a must read collection of poetry.

An eclectic and approachable, yet fun and challenging collection of poems. Many teachable, plenty connected, and some disturbing.

“We all look for the radical reframing that lets our ass shake.”
“We make shambles of their standards. We stand on them and fashion an abolition in diction.”
“Ain’t yet no word for a world where each mistake is a holy possibility to improve.”
“Love is a great idea we keep having every day.”
