A well-written final chapter in the Alien Chronicles, “The Crystal Eye” takes the reader in a far more expansive and diverse journey than I expected when I first started it.

Following the second book I believed that I understood how the series would end and I could not have been more wrong. There are several twists and turns, multiple moments of climax, and a feeling of being on the verge of completion of key events for the majority of the latter half of the book. I felt engaged and invested and delightfully surprised as I realized again and again how Chester used the course of the plot to ingrain within me an understanding of the resilience of both Ampris and the about as a whole.

The book was beautifully written and I loved the way that Ampris was given a dignified death as they reached Ruu-113. I was left feeling as though the story of her life was complete and though I would have loved to see more adventures in this new world, I felt like this was a suitable book end and a proper place to stop.

This was a very sad ending to a great trilogy. The confrontation between Israe and Ampris was a bit rushed, but it was bittersweet to see Ampris's dreams come true, even though
Spoilershe wouldn't be able to partake in her sons' future, and her sons would never see eye to eye, even for the sake of her memory
