Breaking Creed

I received this book from Goodreads First Reads Giveaway.

Definitely a page turner. I have never heard of this author before but glad I got to read this book. The characters were intriguing and the plot was exciting and entertaining. I enjoyed how the characters were experts in their own fields but came together naturally and how the dialogue flowed between them. Made it feel like watching a movie. Will look for more of this author's books.

This ARC I received from Penguin's First to Read program is action packed, fast paced, and a great vacation read. I highly recommend it to readers who enjoy Suzanne Brockmann, Vince Flynn, and Brad Thor.

Kava breaks Ryder Creed out into his own series with Maggie O'Dell as a side character. Creed served in a K9 unit in the Marines and now runs his own search-dog business, taking in strays left in front of his house and training them to search for drugs, human remains, etc. Ryder and O'Dell get caught up in a high-powered conspiracy involving drug-running and some rather icky forms of torture using deadly insects. The plot is nicely complicated with seemingly unrelated cases that come together in the end. Ryder is an appealing character with a good heart. His partner helps out vets who have lost their way so a theme of aiding the abandoned runs throughout the book. Maggie and Ryder are attracted to each other which will likely develop in future installments. A competent murder investigation/suspense thriller with likable protagonists and cute, skilled dogs - what's not to love? Oh yeah -- the insects.

I already loved Maggie o’dell now Ryder! It’s great to see the collab between characters but in different books! The research and dedication that goes into these books is amazing !

A very good read

Enjoyed this book very much. Nice work with the dog training aspects and the suspense. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Time to stop reading books by this author.

A pretty standard romantic suspense but with the welcome addition of a dog trainer/handler. I think the info on the dog training and handling was my favorite part of the book. The romance was very light and must've started in the earlier series because we're told that Maggie and Creed kissed previously. Sadly, the author didn't work at building any real sizzle between the two MCs in this book.

The storyline felt really choppy and some of the scenes (especially Creed trying to take on all the bad guys by himself) weren't particularly believable.

It was okay, and if I knew it would get better in later books, I'd read on. But I'm not sure if that's the case or not.
