I've read most of Alex Kava's other books and was happy to see that she has a new-ish series featuring Ryder Creed and his dogs. This was an enjoyable read. I've already borrowed the 2nd one in this series from the library.

[4 Stars] I genuinely enjoyed the focus of Alex Kava’s writing being shifted to Ryder Creed, and I’m also glad we still get Maggie O’Dell. I will definitely continue with this series.
I liked Ryder Creed and his little rescue dog Grace. I am familiar with an equally high energy jack russel terrier and can understand how great that breed could be as a cadaver or drug sniffing
pooch. Creed is macho but not an alpha a$$hat which is refreshing for me.
I'm getting a little tired of Maggie's FBI boss. Time for a change there.
I will be curious to see if this will be a Ryder Creed series with O'Dell making only brief appearances or if the two investigators will strike up the hinted at personal and professional relationship.
*Spoiler alert* If you don't like snakes, spiders or scorpions, this is one thriller to avoid. :)

Loved it!!! It's been a while since I have read a Kava novel. She never disappoints though. Not sure why, but I could not put this book down. While reading it, I kept saying to myself, " just one more chapter!" I liked how short the chapters were. It made it seem like I was reading faster, I think. Anyway, loved Ryder's character and the way he interacts with the dogs. Also loved how Maggie made several appearances. Wouldn't mind seeing those two end up together. Ok, onto reading Silent Creed.
I really love the Maggie O'Dell series and this new series looks to be just as good.

I enjoyed this book. The writing was very solid. It was extremely fast paced, and I loved how the chapters were only like 3-4 pages each. It helped moved the story along quickly, and keeps you interested while you quickly move from page to page. I'm not a huge fan of thriller type novels, but this one was not bad.
As a dog lover, I really liked the added element of the dogs, especially Grace. My favorite character was Amanda. The way that she was written in was exciting, and the character was extremely believable and I felt like I could relate to her. The main character, Ryder Creed, was a little bit predictable. Like I said, I don't read a lot of thrillers, but this year I've read about three of them, and all three of the main characters were exactly like Ryder Creed. Classic tough guy, I guess. Not my type. haha
O'Dell was cool. For a female heroine, she kicked butt. I thought it was pretty predictable to have her end up with Creed, but I'm not much of a lovey dovey/ mushy gushy type of gal. I felt that for the first book in this series, I would've preferred O'Dell to remain a strong, independent woman, but oh well.
The element of bugs was pretty gross, but it was also an interesting twist that I enjoyed.
Overall, I think that Alex Kava is an excellent writer, and this book would be perfect for fans of crime dramas. :)

A great thriller involving Ryder Creed, ex-marine and K( rescue dog trainer, who gets involved with a drug mule and Colombian drug cartel. From Florida to DC the cartel is one Maggie O'Dell has already come into contact with and she joins Creed in trying to stop the cartel from killing again, especially since Creed is one of their targets. I really enjoyed Creeds dogs, rescues that he trained into highly effective detection dogs who play a pivotal role in getting Creed into trouble but also getting him out of it. I liked the fast paced action which kept me turning pages quickly to find out what was going to happen next and how the supporting characters were worked into Creed's story and the plot of this novel.
This book adds some of the characters from Kava's previous books but explores more of the life of Ryder Creed and his amazing dogs. Some of them locate drugs, others help to search for people who are lost. After stumbling across children in the bottom of a boat in the ocean while looking for drugs, Creed becomes the target of a murderous drug cartel.
Action packed starring an ex-marine who trains dogs as a way to deal with his post-combat issues. A good mix of action and dog affection and training.
