I really wanted to love this book but unfortunately the romance and the characters in general just didn't do it for me. As someone who needs a good slow burn to feel for a pairing, the pacing of the actual romance part was too fast for me - one page they hate each other and the next they're in love - and there was a lack of chemistry between Cat and Lily for me. I also would have loved to see more diversity and piracy all around.

Escape to Pirate Island is my favorite lesfic that I read in 2018. I loved the story, the characters, the action, and even the villains. There were some really good villains to hate on. I will definitely keep my eyes open for more books written by Niamh Murphy.

Great story…heroines, survival against all odds, pirates, and treasure hunt. What more could you want.

Dear readers, I am pleased to announce that the first 5* rating of the year goes to Escape to Pirate Island by Niamh Murphy. It has been a while since I had this much fun reading a book and my only regret is that I didn't read it sooner and just let it sit on my kindle for several months. It might not be the perfect book, but it got really close to perfection.

So if you're into pirates, swashbuckling adventure and f/f romance with strong, morally kinda grey female leads, do not hesitate like I did and pick this book up!

This was unreal. It's a crime that it's so unknown.

A fun lesbian adventure. With pirates. Good plot and good characters I wouldn't mind seeing in a sequel.

Seems like a good romp, I'm just not looking for generic adventure at the moment. Some of the writing out of colloquial British accents/speech patterns was a little much.

Pirates! Treasures! Badass women! Romance! This was so much fun, I loved it.

Full on pirate adventure, narrowing escapes, loyalties tested, deceit, mutinies, slow burn (and I mean sloooow burn) love story entwined in the lot. It was adventurous and nail biting. Loved it. It does take a bit to set up between the two parties that eventually clash, getting both sides leading up to the epic adventure but what an adventure and definitely worth the wait to get there. If you love pirates, adventure, and a sweet unlikely love story unfolding, then grab this book up and give it a read. :) Enjoy the ride on the high seas.
