I love a who-dunnit, but I was uneasy about the way mental illness and trauma were treated in this book. Also wasn't really convinced by the ending.

I liked the plot and there was actually a bit more "mystery" in terms of many odd characters who could have been suspects BUT there was a lot of bandying about disparaging terms for mental illness, which was unnecessary.

I have liked the books I’ve read by Joy Ellis - this one I did not particularly enjoy. It was a long read that I kept losing track of who was who and what had happened. I had to repeat several sections of it and then in the end, I had figured out the mystery long before it was over. It was almost a DNF, but I’m glad I finished it. If I’d read this series in order, I wouldn’t read the next book. But I really liked the 2nd book, so I’ll try the third.
