Such a funny, witty take on Shakespeare's Hamlet! A delightful book

“Let me say...that I reject completely the vulgar, shabby, fundamentally medieval world of Freud, with its crankish quest for sexual symbols and its bitter little embryos, spying, from their natural nooks, upon the love life of their parents.”
—Vladimir Nabokov Speak, Memory

I don’t understand how Nabokov got an advance copy.

But I believe the book achieved its aim; it is big S Shakespearian. From the lurid, squeamish tone and the self-wallowing monologues to the elaborate tricks of verbiage only there to demonstrate the author’s mastery…

I don’t love reading Shakespeare and I did not love reading Nutshell, but it did drive home - that people come from people is profoundly disgusting.

I can't think of a single flaw. Perfectly witty and endearing. I loved this baby protagonist so much. His personality is incandescent. Even though he is a tiny thing and trapped in a womb, he is larger than life.
This made the book. You only read to hear more of the baby's musings.
Highly recommend.
