This wasn't a bad book, but I definitely didn't enjoy it as much as the first two in the series.
It just felt like something was missing. The magic wasn't there for this book. I think the problem was the Penderwicks all being split up just never worked for me. Plus, the Jeffrey storyline really had me rolling my eyes.
Now to decide to carry on with the series, or to just let it go.

I can't get enough of this series! I love each character as if they were truly real life friends. I love the dramatic way each sister sees life and the humor it brings to the story. I love their adventures, small and big, and their sense of family honor and love for each other. One of my favorite things is meeting all the friends they accept into their adopted family.
This book in particular was very enjoyable for me. I loved seeing Skye grow up a little more, Jane dip her toe into noticing boys, and having Jeffrey around again. I know the ending felt too coincidental for some, but I personally love stuff like that and this ending was so beautiful and emotional!
Overall, a fantastic addition to the Penderwick story!

This series gets better and better with each book. The older the Penderwick sisters get, and the more their exciting and often stressful adventures pile up, the more attached to them I become. I just love them so muuuuch. <3 Rosalind with her maturity and softness (although she wasn't present for the majority of this book, seeing as she was in New Jersey for vacation and we focused solely on the rest of the sisters for their vacation at Point Mouette), Skye with her love for black holes and science and her extreme concern as the OAP in Rosalind's absence, Jane with her Love Survey and her extravagant vocabulary and her newest Sabrina Starr book, and Batty with her attachment to absent Rosalind and her harmonica and her newfound love for music in general.
And we can't forget the other beloved characters, including the new people introduced in this installment. Aunt Claire is the best aunt you could ask for, successfully keeping the children sane even after injuring herself. Jeffrey is an absolute ANGEL, doing things like taking Skye to see moose and giving Batty music lessons. When he had a rough time of it in the last quarter-ish of the story, my heart ached for him the whole way through. Mercedes was a fun addition to the squad, although her brother Dominic was... less so. Turron was a bit bland as a character simply because we don't have time to explore him, but ALEEEEEEEC. Alec is amazing - just as much an angel as Jeffrey.
My favorite scene has to be when Jeffrey plays his clarinet for some seals on a nearby island. They completely ignored him, but it was a haunting melody that had the Penderwick sisters enthralled, so it enthralled me too. XD
This is the type of book that doesn't have much of a plot but instead follows a series of fairly random (but exciting and stressful, like I mentioned above) happenings, some of which extend through large chunks of the book. The fact that it isn't plot-driven doesn't mean it doesn't have any shocking twists, though. Above all, it focuses on the characters' growth and relationships and is heart-warming beyond words. I can't wait to read the next one!

The third book about the Penderwick sisters. I read this one to my kids, and they liked it as much as they liked the first (somehow, we missed the second book in the series). I think these novels will stand the test of time and will become modern classics.

Not as good as the first two books, but still a great read! Love the Penderwicks, although this book was a bit more predictable than the others.
My favorite Penderwicks, despite the lack of Rosalind. It’s hard not to adore the return of Jeffrey, the arrival of Alec, and the sheer charming nature of Birches and Moose Market and Point Mouette as a whole. Plus, wonderful tension is added here with the disruption of usual family dynamics, and Skye-as-temporary-OAP has to be my favorite Skye so far (a feat for a character I always had trouble connecting with). The last third of the novel is also an exquisite exploration of emotion and love and found family, never mind the convenience of the twist (which never bothered me). Add in splashes of antics and some colorful local characters and we’ve got The Penderwicks at their best.

I have no memory of reading this the first time… except one detail (the big news).
I loved it! The OAP anxiety, the outdoorsy fun, the step into music… the heartbroken author haha.

Love! Great plot points and I loved all the new characters, and just as many or more laugh-out-loud funny parts!
