I’ve been searching for ways to step back from life and examine it for what it is and means beyond my own puny perceptions in my confusing little world. This book is how.

I'm rereading this book for the second time and it's still amazing, entertaining, funny and you get to discover the humans and their behavior.
Love it!

A lot of people love this book. I’m just not one of them.
That said, I didn’t HATE it.

The Humans starts out strong and funny as an alien is sent to Earth to basically save humanity from itself. Mathematician and Professor Andrew Martin has discovered the solution to an equation that was thought to be unsolvable. With this discovery comes the potential for technology that could give the irresponsible humans too much knowledge. The alien takes over the professors body with the task of eliminating any trace of the solution.

It felt very much like the reader is an outsider looking in on the story and it didn’t really pull me in and connect on an emotional level to keep me turning the pages.

The concept of a book about “being human,” told by an alien, was ironic and I did enjoy that. The alien’s voice is distinct and his take on the human condition is actually quite funny at times. The way the story touches on heavier topics with sensitivity was also well done.

The book became a little repetitive, so it didn’t keep me interested the whole time. I honestly struggled to finish it.the “finding the meaning of life” bit just feels played out, and the ending was predictable and unfortunately made the whole book fall pretty flat for me.

All his work seems to be philosophy masquerading as fiction and I’m into it.
