Better than the first one. But the world building is a bit confusing overall.

Emberclaw throws you right back in the fascinating universe where we first met Arcady, Everen, and other mysterious characters. This second volume had better division of chapters between said characters IMO, so it was nice to be more equally in everyone's head. The origins of magic were developed even more and overall I think this tied up the duology really well!

"though we were lost, I reached for you, though I had no body, and your soul reached back to mine."

what an amazing 2nd book and end of the duology.

dragons, wyverns, assassins, priests, mysteries, multiple povs, queer characters and a romance subplot !!

Sad to say I didn't particularly enjoy reading this book despite the dragons and magical school. The plot was predictable and the characters were rather bland, and I just didn't feel invested in the story. I appreciated the summary of the previous book though.

I enjoyed this a fair bit more than the first book. There was simply just more meat on the bone in this installment. The plot included a magic school (a favorite for some), bringing new characters and a more fleshed out world. The third main character got a backstory finally... And the emotional connections are given now time to develop. It reads a bit YA to me, except for the non graphic spice.
