(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)
Emberclaw was such a solid and fantastic duology ender. I loved the multiple POV particularly because Lam is able to explore themes of prophecy and agency. We can think that a future is set in stone, but what happens when what we think isn't the whole story? What role do we have in our own life? The power to re-write the ending? Fresh off the destruction wrought and the promise of more to come, Emberclaw hits the ground running. It's about the danger they post not only to fate, but also themselves and the ones they love.

This was soooo gooooooood!
I've been eagerly anticipating this sequel and it didn't fail to deliver!
* Not only does Emberclaw have a glossary at the back, but it also had a RECAP at the front! Absolutely made up with that, here's hoping more fantasy books start adding recaps!
* I wasn't too fussed with Sorin in the first book, but her character was fleshed out much more in Emberclaw, and we got to learn more about her. I really enjoyed reading more about her in this book, and if LR Lam ever revisits this world, I hope we get a book or two with Sorin as the main character!
* LOVED coming back to this queer normative world.
* The romance! Not totally the main focus of the book, but that's what I like about it. It makes the moments we get so much sweeter! I love Arcady and Everen.
* The stuff around Arcady's grandsire - I won't say much but that whole story arc, well, I didn't see that coming.
* Kelwyn! ❤️
* And finally, I LOVED how this series ends. We get a fairly open ending, but it's an ending full of hope and possibility for lots of changes for good to happen, not just for the dragons but also for the Struck.
One of my favourite books of the year so far!

Okay, credit where it’s due, this is better than book one Dragonfall.
Emberclaw sees Arcady head off to school to learn about magic and harness their own power. While there Everen keeps popping up in their (often saucy) dreams despite being trapped in dragonland and pining for Arcady HARD. She is buddied up in science class with Sorin who hates Arcady’s guts. The two of them enter a set of trials to try and win a scholarship, while Arcady continues to try and clear her grandpapas name and Everen tries to get back to boning Arcady.
I liked the academy vibes and enjoyed the trials despite being kinda sick of them as a trope. There seemed to be much more going on in this book and the characters actually felt like they had a personality compared to book one where they all felt like flat cardboard.
Besides that, I absolutely HATE the “dragon scales”. The concept of balance in the world is described as a set of scales called THE DRAGON SCALES. Ick. No. I cringed every time I read it. I hated it.
