Really exciting! It was nice that we didn’t need as much set up in this book. Charlotte is so odd but compelling, a great swapped Sherlock. I like how the major murder and Sherlock consultation become intertwined. And how intertwined all the characters are!

Second time reading in advance of her fifth book coming out next month, love this series! The twists! The discussions of women's roles and power in a heavily sexist society! The descriptions of pastry!

I absolutely love this series. I adore Charlotte Holmes as Sherlock Holmes. This book just added to my love of the characters in this series. I also really liked that Olivia has started writing and can’t wait to see how that story line will continue. Its refreshing to see that all the women in this series are extremely interesting, intelligent and talented. It has a great mystery, beloved characters and potential love stories. A perfect mix for me, who could ask for anything more.

This is a reread, and I loved it even more than I did the first time around. The pacing for this installment feels just right, and I couldn't set it aside in the second half as all the threads begin to weave together into something recognizable. There are several scenes that are just so expertly written that I want to savor them - the scene setting, the dialogue, the tension and longing, the silences. It's such a treat to reread and doubly enjoy all the in between character moments.

This book might well have killed me. First of all, I love the classic Sherlock Holmes tales. Second, I love Sherry Thomas. Third, the mystery made me befuddled and captivated. Last, the romance made me dizzy. Even if it was non-existent.

Let's start with the mystery. How much can one person twist a plot to end up with a puzzling and yet astonishing conclusion? That's Sherry Thomas. I mean I tried keeping up with all the misdirections but the twists kept coming one after another. But I LOVED it. This was so good. The mystery was just amazing.

Let's move on to the romance. Romance? It was hardly there but when they interacted, I swear, my heart could take it no more. Why Ash why??? Why?? The tension between them was palpable, the longing so agonizing. How can two people who feel so much stay apart? How did Ash have that strength knowing he and his wife didn't love each other? That she even despised him? How ASH!!! In times like this, I feel vindicative and wish Charlotte married Bancroft just to torture Ash for the rest of his life. This amount of pain is unbearable! I might just have killed him.

Such a well-written mystery with a slow-burn romance interwoven in it. The relationships between each of the characters are great, the dialogues, the intelligent conversations. AMAZING book. Definitely one of my top favorites. I am so scared to read each book because of the fear that it will end one day. I can't bear that thought.

Oh the twists, turns, and red herrings! This was an entertaining story and have I mentioned how much I enjoy a retelling? I’m now fully invested in this series. Omg, bring on book 3!
