I love how the characters become more complicated all the way through the book in a way that complicated and thickened the plot. Being able to experience this book as a deep Morbid podcast enthusiast was exciting, especially being able to catch references to things Alaina and Ash have discussed (BTK sucks). Very glad I picked this book up and excited for the sequel!
Graphic: Kidnapping, Injury/Injury detail, Death, Violence, Stalking, Murder, and Blood
Moderate: Gun violence, Animal death, Gore, and Torture

I love Morbid and I love true crime but I don’t listen (or read) to horror or true crime often unless it’s a podcast during work hours. So I went into this with an open mind and was pleasantly surprised by how the audiobook flowed.
The story itself revolves around Jeremy, The Bayou Butcher and Wren, a forensic pathologist who is helping the police with these horrific murders. Jeremy doesn’t have a lot of back story at this moment and I hope that the sequel will dive into him as a person. He was definitely interesting and one step ahead of everyone at every turn. Wren is an overworked and tired forensic pathologist with a past that puts her directly in Jeremy’s path. And she has to figure out what’s going on before it’s too late.
I saw that some of the complaints were choppy sentences, but with the audiobook that choppiness isn’t there. It read very well and the story itself kept my attention throughout. It wasn’t predictable either which was a huge plus for me. I don’t like figuring out what’s going on halfway through and this had the perfect twist right in the middle. It’s definitely worth an audiobook listen!
