Wished it was longer. Some parts could have been a few chapters.

This book is a very quick read, with obvious room for a sequel. As with almost all true-crime novels, there is a twist, but I didn’t really see it coming. I enjoyed the author’s dichotomy of perspective to propel the story forward as well.

Definitely somewhere mid. Not great but good. Not awful. Felt like a YA novel with some dark elements but I think I appreciated that considering every other chapter was from the POV of a creepy serial killer. I don't usually read books like that so this was a nice intro to it. Though, I might not venture into that too much, besides getting the sequel to this obviously!

I didn’t understand where the plot was going and the reveal / plot twist didn’t fully make sense to me.  I also strongly disliked the ending. I felt like I was reading a textbook sometimes and not an actual horror / scary gruesome book.

It was a good premise, but we learnt little about Wren and an incredible amount about the Butcher. The location could have really been anywhere with swamps, there was very little sense of place despite the book being set in New Orleans. The descriptions of the dead bodies were incredibly graphic by comparison.
