I really enjoyed this book. It kept me on the edge of my seat and I loved that it was before computers and cell phones really took over the spy industry.

Interesting read - good spy thriller with nice subplot and psychological bent. Much is dated and the paperback editing was poor (quite a few errors) but not distracting enough to lessen the experience. Quick read & worth it.

Fun, and with a full cast production, easy to listen to. It’s a bit too over the top for me. I kept vacillating between 2 and 3 stars even though it was a pleasure to listen to because it’s almost like a soap opera in its twists and turns, not to mention subject matter just in the synopsis of the book!

There is quite a bit of padding when it comes to knowledge of trade craft and weapons and other tools of the trade that it clearly tries to give the plot a bit more credibility, but it just seems kind of odd to me to do that with such high drama. It’s certainly an odd pairing between that and the action. A fun read, but it tries to appeal to people who would need to turn off their brain to suspend disbelief regarding the family drama, but also the people who want so much detail it feels real, ala Tom Clancy, or something like it. Very strange.

Atgriešanās laikā pirms kādiem 18 gadiem, kad lasīju visu šo triloģiju, kurā Rozes brālība ir pirmā daļa. Daudz kas bija aizmirsies, bet daudzas lietas uzzināju tieši no šīs grāmatas, tikai gadu gaitā aizmirsies, ka no šīs. Var teikt, ka tas bija viens no maniem pirmajiem mūsdienu trilleriem. Ir dažas lažas, bet priekš 1983.gada ļoti labs.

I picked this one up along with a bunch of others for ten cents each at the permanent booksale on the Boothbay Harbor Public Library porch.

It was okay. A bit reminiscent of all the other thriller/potboilers that inevitably litter the best-seller lists. But The Brotherhood of the Rose wasn't particularly intelligent or well-written. It wasn't painfully stupid either; just a tolerable thriller, a bit predictable, rather shallow, and not particularly memorable or well-written. A tolerable way to kill an hour or two on a commute, but I won't bother to read it again.

For the record, The DaVinci Code is rather similar to The Brotherhood of the Rose; they're both rather simplistic, somewhat insulting to the intelligence of the reader, and awkwardly-written. It you're looking for a superior potboiler of the same general type, try Marathon Man.

One of the more preposterous thrillers I've read. The level of suspension of disbelief required was beyond me.

Despite being cheesy as hell in places, and some dedicated focus on the love interest's figure (she expresses things with her boobs instead of her face), the villain in this is excellent! He even has a creepy greenhouse!

Decent thriller until the silly ending.
