I really loved this. I was actually expecting a fast paced plot but instead it focuses on the characters and life in space, which I found so interesting. It follows the small crew of a spaceship as they journey across the universe, occasionally stopping along the way. The crew are a mix of humans and other "sapients" with very different languages, cultures and appearances which was fascinating. I was so invested in their lives and felt almost protective of them. However the most impressive thing was the world building. There were so many tiny details about life in this universe which helped paint such a vivid picture and I was totally immersed. I'm excited to read her other books.

I'm trying to re-read a book a month this year because I have so many books I want to revisit and never seem to get round to. I first read this in 2019 and it immediately became a favourite. The characters are brilliant and the world building is so fascinating. I think this is the best in the series because it has such a strong setting and characters, but I do love them all and I'll probably re-read the others at some point as well.
