Empathetic, cozy, character-driven sci-fi about a crew of misfits with a heaping dose of found family. I love the writing style. The descriptions are rich in detail, and the dialogue is witty. The world is complex and entertaining, but never overwhelming. The varied descriptions of the different alien (and human) races and cultures were interesting and well-explored. It’s light on the plot and much more about vibes (kinda slice of life), but that absolutely isn’t a critique. I LOVE this cast of characters. Kizzy is hilarious, quirky, and iconic. Dr. Chef is adorable, with his healing and nourishing purpose. I love Sissix, simultaneously tender and a badass. Rosemary gets to discover who she is, supported by this wild crew. 5 stars, no notes.

I loved this character-driven story. It was fun to meet a diverse cast, but I also wished we got more time with each character. The biggest complaint I had was that the first third of the story was fairly slow, but it was engaging enough to keep going until it sped up. The ideas about space species and their interactions was really interesting and I liked the direction the author took with it.

Rating and review previously held during the HPCUnion strike.

This was an enjoyable story and intro to the Wayfayer crew. Already grabbed the sequel from the library! Also, Rosemary *cries*

Join the crew of the Wayfarer on adventures big and small as they make their way through the galaxy on their biggest job yet. The story is told mainly through the eyes of new-to-long-haul-space-travel clerk Rosemary, but gives insights into the lives of the rest of the crew as well. I really enjoyed getting to see snippets of the lives of everyone on the crew, and how it made you sympathetic to all of the characters, even those who are less likeable at the onset. And as the different pieces of their lives interact with each other, the larger things that the story wants to emphasize start to come together beautifully. It's a story that celebrates humanity, but also aliens. It's a story that celebrates diversity, in many wonderful, beautiful flavors.
