Plot seemed to ramble. It all tied in at the end, so I understand why certain things were brought up in great detail at earlier parts. Overall, not very exciting. Just a lot of and then this happened and then this happened

This one kind of has it all! A thriller with a unique family dynamic and characters with cut throat senses of humor. I loved TJ! Highly entertaining! Many thanks to the publisher and netgalley for this early copy for read and review

I downloaded this ARC because I thought I had read previous books by Lisa Scottoline. However, when I dug into my Goodreads I realized I hadn't. Nonetheless, this is an interesting novel.

It is a family saga-the story of the Philadelphia based Devlins. Attorneys all, except TJ, the black sheep who is a recovering alcoholic recently out of prison for endangering the daughter of his ex-girlfriend while on a bender.

Scottoline does a good job of developing the family dynamic as well as the characters so that the reader is invested. The family law firm is at risk due the death of a client's bookkeeper. TJ finds himself at the center of the drama-suspected of foul play, of relapsing, and due to the family dynamic...he has little hope of clearing his name.

I found some of the twists too much, but I did like the writing.

*with thanks to NetGalley for the digital ARC in exchange for this honest review.

This was an excellent crime mystery about who killed this accountant and the alcoholic brother was set to be the detective. Meanwhile his brother kept trying to set him up and its a big family drama sort of story but with a good ending.

I could not get into it…

The Truth About the Devlin’s starts with a bang. TJ Devlin’s brother, John, has just murdered someone.

We soon find out that the Devlin family is filled with upstanding, respected and successful lawyers...with the exception of TJ. TJ is a recovering alcoholic recently released after serving a sentence for a crime he deeply regrets. He works as an unlicensed investigator for the family law firm.

When John asks for TJ’s help, both brothers find themselves in a dangerous game of cat and mouse.

What I liked about this book:
1. TJ is a very likable character and I found myself constantly rooting for him.

2. There is an element of surprise when the true source of TJ’s danger is revealed.

3. The lawsuit regarding medical experimentation on behalf of former inmates at Holmesburg Prison was interesting to read about. The author’s note further explains that experimentation on Philadelphia’s prison inmates actually occurred.

While there were many likeable aspects to this book, it fell short for me. Most of the other characters were unlikeable until nearly the end. I didn’t feel connected to any of the characters and some of the plot felt disjointed. I think I may have rolled my eyes when I read the chapter where TJ met up with Carrie.

Overall, I found this to be a decent mystery and I could see a series of books following the antics of TJ and his cat, Mango.

Thank you to NetGalley, Putnam Books and the author, Lisa Scottoline for this early DRC.
