Olen lukenut vuoden 2023 aikana jokaisen Édouard Louisin tähän mennessä julkaiseman kirjan. Tähän viiden teoksen saagaan on kuulunut vuoden kohokohtia, kuten upea [b:Naisen taistelut ja muodonmuutokset|61626109|Naisen taistelut ja muodonmuutokset|Édouard Louis|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1658308786l/61626109._SY75_.jpg|89667807], mutta samalla viidennen ja viimeisimmän teoksen Muutos: metodi kohdalla tuli olo, että olen lukenut tämän kirjan jo. Louis on valovoimainen ja kiihkeä kirjoittaja, mutta olen huomannut pitäväni hänen tarkemmin rajattuja kirjoja hänen parhaimpinaan: jo mainittu teos äidistä, sekä isään perehtyvä [b:Kuka tappoi isäni|59768392|Kuka tappoi isäni|Édouard Louis|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1638867942l/59768392._SY75_.jpg|61430300] ja järkyttävän väkivaltarikoksen uhriksi joutumista käsittelevä [b:Väkivallan historia|50645601|Väkivallan historia|Édouard Louis|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1579899749l/50645601._SY75_.jpg|48216327] ovat olleet mielestäni Louisin top 3 teosta. Sen sijaan esikoisteos [b:Ei enää Eddy|49646254|Ei enää Eddy|Édouard Louis|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1563048107l/49646254._SX50_SY75_.jpg|71037054] ei iskenyt minuun aivan samalla tavalla kuin nuo kolme, ja täytyy todeta, että Muutos: metodi menee mielessäni samaan kategoriaan kuin Louisin esikoisteos. Tuntuu, että tämä kirja ei ole niin tarkkanäköinen ja analyyttinen, kuin teokset, joissa Louis on rajannut aiheensa tarkemmin. Luokkaväkivallan ja -mobiliteetin analyysi jää jatkuvan tunne- ja kokemusvyöryn alle, eikä pääse loistamaan samalla tavalla, kuin Louisin selkeärajaisemmissa teoksissa. Tuntui, että Muutos: metodi oli vailla punaista lankaa, jonka avulla Louis olisi voinut tuoda luokka-analyysiaan ja yhteiskuntakriittisyyttään paremmin näkyville. Kuitenkin teos oli mielestäni ihan hyvä, ja aion jatkossakin lukea Louisin tulevaa tuotantoa, jos sellaista syntyy. Mutta samalla hieman mietin, onkohan tämä "yksi tarina" jo kerrottu.

Not sure what to say about this book. It was much easier to read than I had anticipated and I wolfed it down in quite a short time once I properly got into it, however I also didn't love it. There are larger and smaller things that annoy me about it. For example, it feels like either the author or the translators had to pay per punctuation character which I really don't care for (small), the author jumps around so much in time and style that it's really hard to get a sense of time and space (large). I also found him to be quite repetitive, though I do understand why that is. He does describe feelings that I remember having myself quite viscerally, quite a lot of them intact. However, because of the writing style I still found it hard to really empathize with him. I would characterize this book and this author as "Good but not for me"
Knallgod. Eg vert ikkje lei av Louis, sjølv om det sjølvbiografiske gjentek seg i alle bøkene. Han klarar å finne nye innfallsvinklar og i denne boka vert eit umetteleg behov for å forandre seg skildra. Språket er nydeleg og eg vert stadig overraska over kva han klarar å innrømme.
Byłam trochę obrażona na EL po jego ostatnich broszurach, ale postanowiłam dać mu ostatnią szansę, for old times' sake i całe szczęście, bo Zmiana jest wartkim zapisem kolei i kosztów awansu społecznego, ambiwalentnym autostudium klasowych obsesji. Bywa pretensjonalna, ale Louis świadomie tworzy swoją prywatną mitologię, nie bojąc się wysokich, autokreacyjnych tonów. To w końcu także list z podziękowaniami do wszystkich, które pomogły mu na drodze do upragnionej przemiany, pełen wzruszającej wdzięczności, wstydu i nostalgii.

Édouard Louis is a genius! I loved the story of young Édouard trying to escape his reality and history. The book does not give too much credit to Édouard - time to time he loathes in self-pity but never too much or too long.
The story was brutal and it was impossible to read without feeling sad and angry. Class, heteronormative society and shame were themes strongly presented in the story.
Because so many of the richer people were so mean and unfair to teen-Édouard I can only end the review with:
