Quite a detailed biography... until approximately the early 80’s... then about three (or more) decades of life summarised in less than a chapter.
The above said, I found the book good and the narration good, even though for some reason I was more easily distracted with this one.
All in all, an interesting perspective of a life...

Probably more like a 3.5. The info was all interesting, especially about the Yale Drama process, but so much of the book wasn’t even about Meryl.

3 1/2. It's fine. Interesting enough.

Meryl Streep didn't participate in this biography, so her voice is missing from the pages. Michael Shulman did a decent job even so of detailing Streep's early life and career. The book only deals with her life up to her Academy Award win for Kramer vs. Kramer, the point where her film career really jumped off. An easy read. I love Meryl, so when I came across this at the library, I picked it up on a whim. I'm on a journey now to watch or rewatch her movies.

It's hard because you cannot rate a person's life. Meryl Streep and her story gets 5 out of 5 stars. Her story was great to learn. I take one star off because of Michael Schulman. He did not write Meryl Streep's story in a captivating way, but very dryly. Although I loved he brought in every detail (I wouldn't have wanted that to change), there was just no "pizzazz" in the writing. It was hard to get through. Very hard. VERY.

While I love Meryl Streep and enjoyed learning a bunch of new things about her, the book was a bit chaotic and I often skipped pages because they seemed so irrelevant.
It's an easy enough read and occasionally interesting.

As far as a biography goes I think it was okay but I think I much prefer a memoir to a big. It covered Meryl's college and early career years which was interesting to consider that period of theatre and film. It felt a bit tangential at times but I did learn some interesting things, just think I was itching to hear from Meryl herself.
