I enjoy all of Kendra Elliot's books so I was looking forward to this new series from her. I haven't been a fan of Melinda Leigh's books in the same series, but this book I liked much better. Their new series takes them to a new area in the Pacific Northwest and the first book follows an FBI agent (Kendra's books) and a police officer (Melinda's books) as they try to figure out whose bones are found. Not just one girl has gone missing from the area, so they are looking into who the bones are, and who killed them.

In the 2nd book, they are on the trail of a killer who left a body harpooned to a sign. They find out that the killed man may not be who everyone thinks that he is.

Both books were enjoyable and typical for these series. They move quickly but are so enjoyable and it doesn't feel like you are missing out when you are getting a novella rather than a full length book. I think I'll enjoy this series more than the Rogue River series as I enjoyed both the characters of these, while I dislike one of the characters of Rogue River.

Recommended to fans of romantic suspense. These books by Kendra Elliot are always enjoyable, and while I personally don't enjoy Melinda's books as much, they are worth it to get the full story from Kendra's books. And the covers are awesome!

Sheriff's Deputy Tessa Black was forced to return to her hometown on Widow's Island to help care for her ageing mother with dementia. When a young artist is violently murdered she finds herself joining forces with the island's ranger to track down a killer.

Widow's Island is a collaboration between Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot. But while they share a setting and some characters each author has her own main characters. The books will probably follow the same pattern as their Rogue River series which was basically a side project with each author contributing novella sized fiction.

I enjoy the occasional novella but I always find it difficult to get into them on an ongoing basis. Story development is by nature thin on the ground and character development which would normally be dealt with in the first few chapters of a book is forced onto the back-burner and will take place over the series.

For all of that, this is good and if you want a quick read for a lazy Saturday afternoon you could do a lot worse.

FTC DISCLAIMER: I RECEIVED AN E-ARC FROM THE PUBLISHER THROUGH NET GALLEY. I VOLUNTARILY OFFER MY HONEST REVIEW OF THE BOOK, THOUGH IT IS NOT EXPECTED OF ME! RECEIPT OF THIS BOOK IN THIS MANNER DOES NOT AFFECT MY OPINION OF THE BOOK OR THE CONTENT OF MY REVIEW!

This book follows on the heels of [b:Close to the Bone|40657699|Close to the Bone (Widow's Island, #1)|Kendra Elliot|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1531504214s/40657699.jpg|63191544] and really shouldn't be read unless you've read that book. However, my biggest complaint about this story is that the ending was entirely too abrupt! It just felt like the story was going along, the investigation was only just beginning, then BAM! We've suddenly got this bad guy coming out of nowhere setting a fire and just revealing themselves so that there's practically no suspense or mystery angle to the story! There also seemed to be very little romance between Logan and Tessa, though I did like the snippets of info that we got on Cate's romance. While I liked that this was part of a larger series, and am eagerly awaiting the next installments of the books, this wasn't one I was impressed with overall.
