I don't know what I was expecting from the Princeless series but this was not it. This is not a value judgment in this case - it's just to say that the series and my expectations of it were in different realms. This work is for a younger audience than I had expected or it has low expectations for its audience. There are moments when it falls to the pedantic but it is nevertheless worth a read for the subversion of tropes - done relatvely explicitly - that show up in this first volume.

Another fun read, and one I'll be sharing with both kids.

Loved it. At times, it's very on the nose, but super appropriately so for young girls. Definitely reading more and adding to my list of kid's comics to recommend to parents.

Ha! I love a fairy tale turned upside-down! Perfect for all middle school readers and a great heroine to shake up the apple cart!

This looks like the beginning of a beautiful friendship..

Adorable. A little bit too over the top with the pandering in a couple places for my tastes, but I would happily give this to any kid who is sick of the "knight in shining armor"/"damsel in distress" fairy tale tropes. And even the kids who aren't.

I love the strong female heroine in this story and that she is also a character of color. We have so few if any stories out there like this that for that reason alone I love this. Add to it a great storyline, snappy humor, and just a plain fun read and I'm hooked.

This was a lot of fun

Loved this graphic novel. A relook at what a princess can be.

I cannot say enough good things about this series. Seriously - its target age range is probably 8-12-year-old girls, but as a 35-year-old woman, I think it's one of the best graphic novel series out there. I will be reading it with my boys when they're older. Also, it's possibly the perfect antidote to all the hatred/violence/really terrible stuff happening in our country right now.
