I read the Spanish edition to try and get back into the language. It’s a great way to do so. There were translations that were words I’d never heard or clearly slang but overall it was good. It’s a princess saved herself story which I’m always interested in and there was nothin to wrong with it though I didn’t love the outfit chapter - she wore an outfit she’d questioned as sexist (it is) for several pages which seemed against the point to me. Fun book though

UPDATE: Like a half hour after I wrote my review, the book was sitting on my desk and a girl saw it and was like "wait is that a girl? WHOA!" So I ran to check it in so she could check it out! YESSSSSS LIBRARY WIN!!!

**********

Princeless is the story of princess Adrienne, who does not want to end up in a dragon-defended tower to be rescued by a prince. Of course, that's how she ends up, except instead of waiting around for a prince she breaks out and decides to rescue her similarly tower-bound sisters. Not only is she female and kicking butt, she's also black which is SO RARE in comics. The fact that she's female matters. The fact that she's black matters. Some of the commentary felt kind of clunky as an adult reader, but for kids it's definitely appropriate.

I will definitely be adding this to my repertoire of comics to recommend. It would be a good follow-up to the Amulet series for elementary/middle-schoolers and it would also be a good superhero-alternative for high school-age young adults.

4.5 stars

It's cute. A princess who decides she doesn't want to be rescued by a prince teams up with the dragon guarding her to go free her sisters from their misogynistic future. Veers towards cliche in some cases (the bit about female warrior armor, in particular), but is a pretty great read for kids.

I LOVE THIS!!!

Not only is the main character amazing and kickass, but this universe is just fun. With all the mentions to other "women warriors" and listing all the plot holes in fairytale stories. . . well let's just say I was hooked by page three. I can't wait to read the next volume.

Girl Power!

Fantastic read. If a prince wont save you, save yourself. In a kingdom that see women as something to ruled Adrienne finds herself in dilemma as a Princess, who wants nothing more than to be herself but her father has other plans for her and her sisters. This is great for those who loved Marceline and the scream queens , Nimona and Lumberjanes. Grades 5 and up
