I knew I would love this and I was right! Ahhhhhh! So good! So funny! Can't wait to pick up the next one.
This is fun and has good flow, but it's a scoach too didactic for my tastes... its message is suuuuuuper overt/feminism 101 and a bit lacking in finesse. Good for the intended audience, though it skews younger than I anticipated. I'd probably give it to really young teens/tweens.
ETA: it occurred to me that of all the 'girl power' sort of comics that I've read, I have tended to really like the ones written by women (Lumberjanes, Bitch Planet, Ms Marvel), and have issues with the ones by men (this one, Rat Queens, In Real Life, Squirrel Girl). Go figure.

After hearing rave reviews of this graphic novel from young people as well as librarians, I read it and it is wonderful. At long last a story of a princess in distress who doesn't wait for a prince to rescue her, she rescues herself. Girl power! There are some great discussion points in this graphic novel such as why are female superheroes typically scantily clad but male superheroes are usually completely clothed. I went on to read other books in this series and those I didn't feel were as good as the first. I was happy to share this book with my daughters and they loved it as well.
Funny middle grade feminist take down of princess stories. Adrienne's skewering of the first prince to call her fair had me lol'ing. A definite must add to any MS GN collection.
I found a new book to evangelize this year - all of the kids who invite my kids to their birthday parties are getting this one. It was great. Funny and smart, I can't recommend it highly enough. The fact that my 12 year old daughter loved it as much as I did made me love it ten times more. She's totally into princess stories, and this is the kind I want her to be reading.
Delightful fun for all ages! Read my review at Gator Book Chomp.

Cute, quick graphic novel recommended to me by an 11-year old library patron. A princess rescues herself from her tower and then goes on a mission to rescue her sisters from their towers. I don’t see myself finishing the series, but glad that kiddos are reading these kinds of stories and enjoying them
