I really appreciated this addition to the story! Maverick was one of my favorites from THUG and to follow his story was amazing! (even though i was kinda pissed on him for like 50% of the book hehe) I loved the relationship he formed with seven and I also really liked how his relationship with Lisa developed throughout the story.
I absolutly loved this and once again I am giving Angie Thomas 5/5 Stars

Angie Thomas does not disappoint. Maverick was my favourite character in The Hate U Give, meaning this book was exactly what I needed.

A solid read but nothing earth shattering. Took me a while to make the connections back to the hate u give since it’s been so long since I read that. Nothing bad to say, but also nothing that really stood out to me. A very average read.
I'm sure it didn't hurt that I went into this story already loving Maverick. And Lisa. It's less common in YA novels that the parents are even present, let alone as real and engaged as Starr's parents. To have a chance to go back in time, re-enter this world and witness their struggles and progress when they were teenagers and sorting things out, it made me love them more.
Angie Thomas gave me a deeper understanding of these wonderful characters, letting me cry and laugh for them. It really makes me want to go back and re-read parts of The Hate U Give, but it also stands on its own as a story worth telling.
