When I read The Hate U Give a few years ago, I fell completely in love with Starr and her family, and the whole community. So it was so good to revisit them. Maverick felt like a character with a huge backstory and I loved being able to delve into that.

In THUG, Mav has his shit together and he's a calming, safe presence for his kids. So it's kind of comforting and sweet to see him as a scared kid who's in way over his head, and how he develops from one extreme to the other.

It's funny, even knowing the outcome of this book I still had my heart in my mouth at times. This is another heartbreaking story from a community beset by tragedy, but with so much love at its heart. Going so deeply into Mav's history and learning more about him made me want to go back to THUG and see how much I missed the first time.

Such a good book. Like put me back in the world of the Hate U Give within the first page. Loved to hear the sad backstory of Mav, and to read the tie ins that relate to Starr’s life 17 years later. I honestly really hope there is another book between this and the Hate U Give. I have so many questions and would love to continue this journey.

I never write reviews, but I DEVOURED this book. It had me crying real tears for Mav from about 20 pages in. The story grabs you by the throat and makes you root for him with every ounce of your being. Every single person needs to read this book, and everyone can take something from it.

Gosh I loved getting to see Mav’s story. Made it even better that it was all 90s references. It was soo sweet to see his journey with Seven and then Star and how he and Lisa started. Really enjoyed it.

Angie Thomas is the best author in the world!!!!!!

I loved this book a lot since I just read The Hate U Give so I could not wait to read this one. I loved learning about Starr’s dad backstory so I really enjoyed that concept!

I can’t wait to read another Angie Thomas book!!

Best fricking book ever!!!!
This book just hits my heart so hard. Maverick is just a great mc and a great father to his "little man." I again listened to the audiobook and the speaker of the audiobook is just so good. He makes this feel like this book is based on a real event. This review is probably going to be short because as you can see, I already read this book. Not even a year later, I just had to read it again. I am doing a challenge with a person name Jime so thank you to them for choosing this book for me.
But everyone hope you have a nice day!
