Signs of Cupidity

3.5 stars. Quickie review - This was entertaining, but I didn't know it was a serial. Still, I liked it. It was my first RH and I didn't love the YA-feel. There is an obvious heroine who is a cupid, but who the heroes will be is still up in the air a bit. I also felt it was a little drawn out. The ending was a cliffhanger, which was unsatisfying because there was no payoff. But I liked the worldbuilding, the cupid and fantasy aspects, and was entertained. I was sucked in enough to the story to keep going onto book two, which I liked much better, so I'm glad I continued.

I honestly went into this book with the lowest of low assumptions (mostly because i forced myself to read the plated prisoner series and absolutely hated it) but i was shocked by how good this was! I admit i cheated a little bit and i did read the synopsis's for the next books in the series so i could get a feel for what it would be like, and because the main characters get a happy ending in the final book i decided it really couldn't be all that bad.

This is the first book out of 4 (not counting the spin off which is book 5) and it is so so so short, i made the fatal mistake of finishing this one without having the others ready to dive straight into which is such a rookie mistake that i am now suffering through. So much happened considering all of the world building and character introductions that were being made, and i don't feel like there was too much of a dull moment at all. We get to know our female cupid as well as some fae royalty (assholes) and 3 extremely hot potential love interests.
The only way i can describe our cupid character is being very similar to Bryce Quinn(lyn?) from House of Earth and Blood. They have the same kind of humor and attitude, party animals who does have a serious streak when they wanna, stubborn but loyal to a fault.

Cannot wait to start reading the rest of the series and finding out what the relationship is gonna be like between all these characters, as well as her cupid not cupid status and if any of the characters are gonna get in trouble with members of the royal court lol

Yes, plot-wise it wasn't that good (and there were no ooh lala scenes) BUT I enjoyed the comedy.

I was a little hesitant at first, but I kept telling myself that her being an invisible side character in her own story couldn't possibly stick... And I was pleased to find out I was right. Things are definitely more interesting in this new world she's found herself in, though I can't say anything feels particularly unique. [Are they ever where fae are concerned?]

I mean, maybe it was unique when it first came out in 2018. I read the Bonds That Tie not all that long ago, so I'm biting at the bit for a polycule to fully form with Emelle at the center. That's very likely the direction it's going in, so I'm not complaining about the journey. I just hope we don't have to wait too long for it! And romance aside, I really would like some answers about her cupidity.

The book length was perfect to get our bearings. There are some editing woes, but it's nothing that hinders your ability to read the book. (At least, for most people. I know some struggle to overcome missing words/typos.)

I enjoyed this! It’s a cute funny fantasy where an incorporeal Cupid becomes corporeal and lands on an island with 3 hot males (with tails). Nothing spicy happens in this one except a bunch of sexual innuendos and banter, but you know the next 3 books will have that reverse harem fated mates that I was looking for.
