3.75. I actually enjoyed it a lot but there was a major plot hole in the middle that pissed me off and then the ENDING. Helen I know your recipe by now but WHY. I actually like the relationship between Torj and Wren more than Thea and Wilder, I feel like they have great chemistry and purpose…but you ain’t have to do them like that at the end.

I enjoyed this overall. Predictable at times, and not the tightest plot wise, but still fun!
Solid start to the trilogy, and I’ll definitely read the next one!

The plot and the romance goes around in circles, making for a very repetitive and slow pace. No surprises it ends with the two main characters back where they started AGAIN so the author can repeat the same cyclical enemies to lovers in the sequel!! The setting was so clearly secondary to the romance and it was quite disappointing because I would have loved more about the magic school!!
Didn’t realise until part way through that this is a spin-off of another series. Thus, a lot of the world building feels extremely underdeveloped and confusing. Spin-offs can (and should) make sense and be enjoyable without reading the original - see Six of Crows and Dance of Thieves for better examples of this - unfortunately Iron & Embers is not one of these.
Another disappointing pick from the Fairyloot Romantasy box :(
