Reads like YA but with a few explicit sex scenes. The first half felt redundant. I get it--enemies to lovers. Let's go.

The plot and the romance were predictable, no surprises there. I LOVED the first series, but this one fell flat for me.

There wasn’t nearly enough character development for any of the characters. Also, even though I do enjoy spicy scenes, there was way too much unnecessary spice in this book. I specially disliked the constant reminder of how hot the main characters were, despite the conversation not being related to that. Like, in a very emotional scene there would be a random mention to his *rippling muscles* or the way her dress *clung to her breasts*. Took me right out.

The academic setting was just that,  a background setting with little to no impact on the plot beside the few chapter (and I mean few) that focused on the classes and the last bit that was for the gauntlet, which, by the way, was really underwhelming: it didn’t really test the alchemy knowledge of the four disciplines, just two of them if I’m being generous, one if I’m not.

The plot was also a background thing. It was only mentioned when it was relevant for the romance, which was honestly annoying, because I wanted to know more about what was happening than being reminded for the hundredth time that the MMC can’t be with the FMC because he’s her bodyguard.

The soul bond plot was nonsense. The MMC spends the WHOLE book researching magic wounds only for Thea to have to tell him it’s not a wound, and give him the book with literally ALL the answers.

I skimmed quite a bit because I just couldn’t deal with all the repetitive arguments, and I forced myself to finish it.

I may give the next one a chance because I’m intrigued about the whole rebellion thing, but It will depend on my mood at the time.

So, read at your own risk

I thought nothing could top my love for Wilder and Thea and holy crap, was I WRONG!
I laughed, I cried, I cheered, and I kicked my feet like a little kid over Wren and Torj. You know, now that I think about it, I think I’ve cried more tears of both sorrow and joy while reading every single one of her books than I have with any other series - I’ll need to see if there’s some sort of Helen Scheurer trauma hotline LMAO
All joking aside, I will be anxiously awaiting the next chapter in Wren and Torj’s story.
Even if you haven't read The Legends of Thezmarr series but enjoy fantasy and the most delicious tension-filled slow burn that will have you on the edge of your seat until it finally catches fire, you NEED to read this book

Helen Scheuerer is a sorceress. Not only did she make me feel connected to the story, but she actually made me feel like I was there. Literally in the pages, experiencing the character growth of Wren. She made me feel like knowledge truly is power. That my mind is a weapon and I am just as strong as a sword wielding warrior.

I felt EVERYTHING.

And don't even get me started on Torj. That big ol' tender hearted softy. He is the definition of the perfect man and I will take no criticism or questions on this matter. My heart continuously broke for him as well. Pining for that long? Just...I can't 😭

The slow burn. The tension. It all builds to the sweetest crescendo.

And the ending! I honestly was surprised which is not usually the case for me. But as this is our queen, Helen, I should have expected as much 😉

Y'all, I'm sorry this review is so awful because I don't want to spoil anything. just read this one. Trust me. You want it. You need it. You won't regret picking this baby up, I promise💗

Thank you BOMM and the author for the earc and having me on the tour. It was a pleasure.
