I thought it would be better to jump straight into this after the Legends of Thezmarr (also don't listen to anyone who says this can standalone, read Thea's story first) but I should've done a palate cleanser before starting this one. I felt like there was a lot of filler here and this definitely could've been half the length that it was. I just felt like plotlines kept dragging on and then we when we got to main point of the storyline, it was over in less than a chapter. Would've been a 3 star read, if it wasn't for Torj, loved his storyline so he get's an extra half star.

Helen Scheuerer has done it again! Iron & Embers is an absolute triumph that seamlessly picks up where Legends of Thezmar left off. I was thrilled to see Wren and Torj’s story continue, especially after the way their arc was left open—this book delivered everything I hoped for and more.
The return of familiar faces was such a joy. Kipp’s, in particular, had me grinning with his antics—so true to character and exactly the dose of mischief I didn’t know I needed. The side characters in this world are just as rich and compelling as the leads, and their inclusion made the world feel even more alive.
Speaking of world building—wow. The detail and scope of this realm are immense, and it’s so easy to fall back into the magic and danger that Helen crafts so vividly. But it’s the slow burn between Wren and Torj that really had my heart pounding. The tension, the yearning… it kept my toes curling the whole way through.
And just like Helen loves to do, the last 20% of the book popped off. Twists I didn’t see coming, revelations that left me wide-eyed, and a cliffhanger that genuinely had me reeling. I need the next book immediately—but luckily, I won’t have to wait long!
This is an unforgettable start to the Ashes of Thezmarr series, and I already know it’s going to be one of my favourites.
