This is a reread since I bought the physical book with a new cover and I still love the relationship between Georgie and Vektal. Their original “meeting” was pretty funny and their language barrier made their interactions humorous especially from his pov where he’s trying to understand what she’s saying. I tabbed the hell out of this book and for good reason. Their were a lot of spicey scenes throughout the book along with funny and romantic moments between the duo and the side characters and even some sad sappy moments when they talk about the possibility of her going back to earth if she had the chance.

I liked the world building in the book and the descriptive language used when mentioning the setting as well as what the aliens and other wildlife looked like on this other planet.

it is 1:19am and i have just finished my first alien smut novel, give me 8 hours of sleep to collect my thoughts.

OKAY! so! im glad she took out the non-con scene for the special edition but we have to address the dub-con. i genuinely don’t believe someone who has just been caught in a literal hunting snare after being kidnapped from her own bed, being forced to witness many scenes of sexual assault, and then murdering one of the living beings that violated them would react the way geogie did when she wakes up to some unknown huge blue alien eating her out.

i get that sexual pleasure can be intense, more so for others, but to disregard all the non consensual stuff she’s been through and seen in a short amount of time just to get it on with the first person who is nice to her? something about that just gives me the ick.

also, all the violence against women specifically made me so uncomfortable. i had an idea of it after reading the synopsis of the story but it definitely didn’t give me the full picture as actually reading the story did.

as the story goes on, yes i see that vektal does actually care about georgie and their language barrier does keep them from communicating the finer points of their conversations and arguments but the way he described the mate bond between them screams of sexism and misgony. in a way, it feels like the author was trying so hard to not exhibit those ideals and ended up circling back to them anyway.

plot was there but definitely not the main focus. the writing style was a little too ya for the adult book it is so i didnt particularly enjoy that. its not bad, but it definitely needs a lot of work.

the sex scenes were a delight once you got past the dubious consent elements and simply for that, i give this 3 stars

I’ve known about this series for ages- it’s practically a legend on Romancestagram and I totally get why people love it. This is my intro to this author’s work and to the Ice Planet Barbarians series and overall, I liked it. In this intro to the series, Georgie is kidnapped from her home in Florida bad some evil alien traffickers along with a dozen other women. On the way, their alien ship runs into difficulty and the women are discarded on an ice planet injured and unprepared to fend for themselves. But Georgie is not willing to give up and while seeking help, runs into Ice Planer Barbarian, Velktal.

I liked the trajectory of Georgie and Vektal’s story. Quite alright there is some dubious consent when they first meet and kind of throughout their relationship but I suppose it is as non-malicious as dub-con can be and stems more from a cultural  misunderstandings than any intent to harm or overpower. It must be noted that this is quite violent and early on, there’s an on-page sexual assault, so be mindful of that if you’re considering this.

I think this is a good set up for the series. It’s an on-stressful read and I thought it was fine.

This was very enjoyable, overall fun read. The first chapter is the darkest, worst one (content warning for that one) but once we meet Vektal, it gets better. Basics: women are kidnapped from Earth & crash onto an alien ice planet they call Not-Hoth. Georgie is made the leader of the humans & meets Vektal. He is the sweetest, most caring blue horned alien. Looking forward to the second book.

I read the first four Ice Planet Barbarian books when they were released back in 2015!! With their recent popularity, I decided to read them again.

I love these big, blue aliens! Vektal is just so sweet with the perfect amount of growly and possessive, and Georgie is such a strong character! The book starts out much darker than I remembered, but by about page 30, things start to lighten up and get spicy! Which is what we’re all here for, right??

If you don’t already know, Georgie and 14 other girls are abducted by aliens and then stranded on an ice planet! Georgie sets off to find help, and comes across Vektal, a giant, blue alien with horns and a tail. Vektal resonates with Georgie thanks to his khui, the worm that keeps his kind alive on the ice planet, and is immediately head over tail for her, which results in some steamy moments.  Being they’re two different species, Georgie and Vektal don’t speak the same language, but over time, they come to understand each other just fine. (this was actually my favorite part, the two of them communicating with each other and learning the other’s language was so cute and sweet!) The two set out to save the rest of the girls stranded on the planet and take them safely to Vektal’s tribe. Oh, and they have all have to get the cootie in order to survive on the planet, no big deal, right?

I absolutely adored re-reading this book and coming back to the world of Not-Hoth and the sa-khui. I am so excited to read book two, and I’m going to have to revisit books three and four, too. I remember that book four, Harper’s story, was my favorite, so I can’t wait to see if it holds up a second time around!
