I’m only a bit let down. People hyped this up too much online. But I’m not mad about it because really what should I have expected reading a book called Ice Planet Barbarian? I was honestly hoping for some real world building and cool dynamics between the different aliens and the humans but nah. It’s really just alien smut. Nothing wrong with that but wanted more from it. Also the first 50 pages would’ve made me drop the book if I wasn’t forcing myself to see this book to the end. But if the problematic parts don’t bother you & you really want weird alien smut and nothing else, definitely  go for this book.

Edit: coming back to knock down a half point for the surprise pregnancy. No surprise pregnancies in my smut please.

What It’s About: After being abducted, a group of women crashes on an alien planet. When one of them seeks help, she discovers a member of a tribe who immediately recognizes her as his soulmate and has to figure out how she can communicate with him in order to make sure all her friends are rescued.

Spice Level: Hella, hella sexy. Like, sexier than it honestly has any right to be. But listen. You’re either going to love it or hate it. You’re going to unlock new kinks or wonder what the heck all of us who have fallen in love with this series are thinking.

Realism: Look, I know it’s sexy aliens on a snow planet, but this series has better lore than a lot of sci-fi I’ve read. It holds up. There’s an explanation for everything that makes sense. In addition, I like that Georgie isn’t a perfect heroine. She gets scared, she worries that she won’t be able to accomplish her task, and she fears she’s being selfish. It’s easy to relate to her because she’s not just a one-dimensional badass.

Trope Alert: Fated mates and instalove, two of my favorites! There’s also accidental pregnancy, which I know not everyone likes.

Trigger Warnings: There’s some pretty intense warnings for this one. Rape and death. There’s a hint of dubious consent the first time Georgie and Vektal meet, considering his, uh, greeting. Abortion is also mentioned.

read this because i wanted to know what the absolute fuck was going on. i’d seen the memes, and curiosity got me.
but holy shit. i had such a fun time.

anyone reviewing this like it’s meant to be incredibly serious mind-blowing sci-fi literature is missing the point.
this is just a silly goofy time.

bonus points for endless star wars references. it’s what george would want.

Entertaining and short. The world building was definitely there, but the length of the book was short because it touched but didn't delve into some topics that would make the book a lot darker - like Georgie's worry about the family and friends she left behind, or thoughts of returning home.

CW/TW: the rape scene is in the beginning, was easy to skip over, and then was only mentioned a few times. This topic was not written about in depth after it occurred on page.

CW: r*pe, sexual assault, pregnancy

The world building was so easy and it was so entertaining!! I thought this was a really great sci-fi romance. I was glad i was warned about the content at the beginning.
