I read this book to the kiddos at school every year as a part of a lesson on bullying. Halloween is my FAVORITE holiday and I love being able to have themed lessons. The book is also great for bringing up a discussion on treating others with kindness and respect...even when they haven't done the same to you.

September 2018 - Ben loves this, and although he doesn't get all the hot dog jokes, he does crack up at "my little Vienna sausage" and the other things Oscar's mother says. I've lost track of how many times we've read it!

Very cute, crazy, and funny. A typical Dave Pilkey picture book. Perfect for a fun Halloween story time, or a lesson on text clues.

This was a very cute Halloween story that has application outside of Halloween with its themes of bullying and fitting in. Dachshunds are just funny, and Pilkey exploits this to great effect. When the mom calls him "my little Vienna sausage", kids will lose their shit.

I loved this story as a kid, and so this year, I showed it to my third-graders before they wrote spooky stories. A great read!
