Incredibly readable, but didn’t love the characters as much as I did in Croucher’s other book! The Camelot setting, political machinations, and thought out character choices were all things I really liked. The understandable conflict instead of doing the miscommunication trope was much appreciated. I just felt that by having four people, two couples, there were a lot of names and things happening which caused the emotional beats to not hit as hard for me.

Where do I even start?
This book failed to handle the multiple changes in tone it tried to create. The humour is on point but anything else feels unserious and fails to create emotion.
The characters are underdeveloped, lack layers and depth. Bridget and Gabriel are described only through their passion (fighting and academics) whereas Gwen is absolutely useless and has no spine. Arthur's alcool problem is absolutely not well handled.
Death, pain, grief and desperation were supposed to be part of the story due to the plot but???? it was clearly lacking, everything seemed to be taken as a joke and it has no impact.
Overall the book lacks depth, characters should be given more background and motives, heavy topics should be handled with more care and kindness.
