I wasn't expecting this book to be a short story. This was a huge bummer as I was on a long drive while listening to it. I was entertained but this wasn't something that will stick with me.

read for MFC. liked the way it handled non-traditional families and what life might actually be like for trouble children.

This is a pretty little book. It reads like a literary Newbery award winner. Our heroine is a talented, neglected girl who needs a home and family. Pretty typical for the genre.

I can see so clearly why this was my favorite book when I was younger and after rereading it I can say that it holds up in my brain. I forgot about the second half of the book, I think it's funny I held onto the story and the sadness but not the happy ending; I don't really know what that means.

I really liked this. My one complaint is I kept getting the cat and the boy mixed up.

I read this book as a kid and wanted to do a reread before gifting to a niece. It definitely holds up! I listened to the audio this time.

A short but sweet read. Hollis reminded me of a student I had just this past year. The foster care system is so broken. This book did a great job of depicting that. It also showed how foster kids really do react to stress and trauma. It’s a beautiful story that is both sad and hopeful. Recommended for people who like coming-of-age and uplifting stories.
