I'm not sure how I feel about this one. It really had me intrigued in the beginning. Then it just got bizarre and a bit hard to follow. Don't get me wrong, I understood the plot line. It just seemed the some of the elements were completely unnecessary to the story. I really despised the "talking coyotes." I didn't mind the other mutated animals, but the coyote's capability to speak disjointed English is ridiculous (even in this fictional setting) I am not sure whether I care if they get out of the FAYZ or not. Eventually, I may read the remaining books in the series, but I am definitely not chomping at the bit to buy them. Put it this way...I had picked up this book in hopes of finding an engaging novel for my students to read over the summer. This most definitely is NOT it.

I read this (series) many years ago, but I think about it often and would reread it as an adult just because the plot is so deep and captivating and wild.
