Although many of the poems felt over my head, they all used language in a way that was refreshing and illuminating. I look forward to coming back to my favorite poems and reliving their beauty.

oops i forgot i never really sat down and read this. anyways into the favorites it goes! to no one's surprise.

obviously i love anne carson. "short talk on why some people find trains exciting" was my first encounter with carson and hits just as hard in this collection. i gained some new favorites: "on major and minor," "on sunday dinner with father," "on the sensation of aeroplane takeoff," "on afterwords." but i think the experience needs to be conveyed as a whole which is the slurping down of these juicy morsels of the utmost beautiful language (like just look at those titles and dare say you don't feel anything oh my god) like a tasting menu at a michelin star restaurant or fat drops of rain on your naked open face. ughhhh it's simply sososo good.

i do think the foreword should be removed. after antigonick, i am entirely of the opinion that only anne carson should write forewords/preceding materials for anne carson. "introduction" was very good and set the stage perfectly fine. no one else does it as well!!

i would love to revisit this again with a more scholarly mind, simply because my classics knowledge is embarrassingly not up to par and there were definite references and interesting linguistic things carson did that i simply did not observe as a pleasure reader instead of an analytical reader in this moment. but we have time :)

I’ll definitely have to revisit this one to fully collect my thoughts, but these are some of my favorite poems from this collection:
Short Talks on Ovid, on Autism, on Major and Minor, on Van Gogh, on Walking Backwards, on Waterproofing, on Mona Lisa, on Reading, on Rain, on The Total Collection, on Hedonism.
