I remember when I first picked this series up and was so surprised that I liked it as much as I did, but it also kickstarter my interest in the mystery genre. Veronica and Stoker make for a dynamic pair and the slowburn tension between them is something I appreciate. Alongside that you get a compelling mystery in each novel, with this one setting up Veronica's past and bringing them together, as well as throwing hints about Stoker's last as well. It didn't linger too long on the darker aspects of the story and instead took an overall lighter, more humorous tone, and in all was quite a compelling read.

I love the quirky character!
The witty banter combined with her lepidopterist/lady scientists character made this book incredibly enjoyable.
This book is a light and enjoyable read set in the late 1800s. Veronica Speedwell is a worldly spinster of 25. After the last of her unrelated aunts dies, Veronica is prepared to tour the world, in search of butterflies and adventure. Adventure of an unexpected variety upsets her plans and provides an entertaining tale.
I can't wait to read the rest of the series.
