THis book reads more like a romance with a Yukon backdrop than a true adventure novel. The weird asides about "Anglo Saxons are the Superior Race" may be period typical, and we may be supposed to laugh askance at it to some extent but it added nothing of worth to the novel. I understand this is an important / historic work because it's a "Female Protagonist" but that alone is simply not a redeeming enough factor for me in light of the racism, including the Native-targeted racism, and anti-semitism. Not to mention that the love triangle was boring and I found both options contemptible.

At this point I'm so starved for female protagonists in classic adventure novels that I have like zero expectations. Just give me a female lead in a Jack London story and I'm happy.
