As always, Forster hit the point home. An apt book to read in India. Love it.

A couple of my coworkers remarked that they really liked this book and/or the movie made from it, so I was expecting it might be good (I don't know whose taste among them I believe yet, though). I guess British class woes and colonialism don't grab hold of me that much. Or maybe it was just this book. I didn't particularly like it. I thought I knew what would happen right from the start, but I was completely wrong. I didn't really like most of the characters, so I didn't care all that much about them, and then in the end there could have been a lot more resolution. I am okay with books that aren't resolved but there didn't seem much of a reason for this to end with this one particular loose end. So it was okay, nothing more.

I am leading a book discussion on this book at my library tomorrow, and I finished it today. As with many classics, it had moments where it was a bore, but I really appreciate the cultural significance of this book. I thought the ending was great, and I was very interested in the historical aspects of the book. As I was reading it I got flashbacks to college and began thinking of the awesome research paper I would have written on it.

I do not think I have ever read a more tedious book. When one, who is wide awake, falls asleep reading, it is not the fault of the reader.
