It was okay.

I love E.M. Forster but I think this was my least favorite of his novels (just slightly under Where Angels Fear to Tread).

Not bad by any means but I don't think it sang quite like some of his other novels. Plus it's a British author talking about British Imperialism in India so you definitely have to take it all with a grain of salt (that being said, I do think he's rather critical of British Imperialism given the year the book was published).

I picked this up on the recommendation of a friend who loved it, and I really struggled with it. There was some nice writing in it, and it picked up a bit starting about halfway through, but the earlier bits were tedious drawing-room style dramatization that really just doesn't do it for me.

I only read a few chapters in before I was thinking about other things. The story just didn't hook me at this point in my life...I'll try again someday.
