An excellent follow-up to A Marvellous Light. I loved getting to know Maud and seeing another side of Hawthorn (can’t wait to start A Power Unbound!).
I was on the edge of my seat from start to finish. There were so many places where I gasped when I made connections to the previous book, or when I was struck by a particularly good plot-twist.
Marske is very, very good at what she does—which is weaving tales of intrigue, magic, and—yes—queer desire.

I really enjoyed the first one - but I wanted more magic and smarter villains here.

Really lovely sequel to what's becoming a very enjoyable queer historical fantasy series! This one focuses on the sister of Robin, one of the MCs from book one, and has a nice femslash slant. The plotting and pacing were both great, and the whole thing was just super fun to read. I very much enjoyed the character, including Hawthorne, a side-character from book 1 who makes another and more concentrated appearance here, and I'll eat my hat if he and Ross aren't the focus of the next book, which I'm excited about!
The relationship here was also really interesting, and similarly to the last book, it leaves the characters in a solid place, but with quite a lot of potential for growth and/or more story to tell, which leaves the reader wanting a bit more--though I surprisingly felt that less so with this pairing, despite the less stable position their in compared to the pairing from book one. This book also felt a LOT heavier on the explicit/smutty scenes, which is definitely not a complaint! But I did almost feel a bit cheated not having got this same level of steam in book 1! Given I suspect we'll have a MM pairing in the next book, I'll be curious to see what the steam's like there...
Anyway, I've very much been enjoying this series and I'm looking forward to the next book, along with anything else this author's got on deck!
