Marske is one of my favourite writers, but the narrator wasn't getting the beats and pacing right in this. There were definitely some mishandled emotional moments. This is... tolerable when it's a book I've read already, but not great when it's the first time I'm encountering a text, especially when it's a writer I love as much as Marske (I picked up her published work because I love her fanfic).

I'm planning to ebook this whole series first to get the proper effect, and then reread it via audiobook when it's been long enough between reads. The narrator was pretty good otherwise, apart from the mishandling.

Better than the first and third entries, this lesbian cruise ship mystery is perfectly queer.

I love this world she created, the magic and the characters and the story line… looking forward to the final book

I loved this one. I enjoyed the first. But Maud is my favorite. What a fun caper at sea. And I loved getting to know Ross and Hawthorn better! I can’t wait for the next one.

This is wonderful for fans of the Parasol Protectorate, as well.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars

This book has my whole heart. Maud is an amazing character and I hope her and Robin’s stories come together for the final book, possibly in an alternating POV chapter style. A queer romance set on a Titanic-like ship? Yes please. Violet and Maud’s character development in this is amazing. Hawthorne being involved in the plot too was so cool, we were definitely robbed only having one chapter with Hawthorne in the first book, I hope we see him again in the final one. His character developed regarding Maud is lovely to see, especially since he let it slip that she reminds him of his sister. I hope to see a combination of all the characters in A Restless Truth and A Marvellous Light come together in the final book, which I cannot wait to read (I will be preordering). Freya Marske is now one of my favourite authors.

Just to graphic for me.

Maud has gone to America to warn one of the Forsythia members. However, she is killed on the ocean liner returning to London. She is able to find some help due to her brother's foresight. However, can they discover what is the first piece of the contract and keep free of the murderers?
