I couldn't get into the story. It felt like I was missing something, or starting in the middle of a series

I was thoroughly entertained by this story. I heard it as an audio book read by Wil Wheaton. I am a fan of Wil Wheaton reading books. I enjoyed this short story, but Wil Wheaton adds the extra star to give it a four-star rating.
I have not read the first book in the series. I didn't know it was a series at all. I just took it as a freebie from Audible. I thought it was fine on its own, although I am a bit curious about the first book now.

I was so disappointed by this audiobook. I just love Stan Lee - I mean, who doesn't love Stan Lee, right?? And it's narrated by Wil Wheaton, and I loved how he narrated Ready Player One. But this was not a winner for me.
I think it was the format. It's a visual story, but I don't know why it was ONLY made as an audiobook. Maybe my problem was Wil's tendency to over-enunciate. I don't know. I really felt I would have enjoyed this as a comic book, possibly even a written story. But as an audiobook, it was a little hard for me to follow.
Rest in Peace, Stan. ❤️
