Powerful, moving, heartbreaking, affirming. Chanel speaks to the deepest part of myself and says, “It’s okay. You are enough.”

I had wanted to read this for a while but was kind of scared of it and how intense it would be. I remember hearing about the story as it was all happening original and being absolutely shocked when the sentencing was shared. I definitely had to read slowly and take breaks.
This was a beautifully written memoir that contained all of the honesty, vulnerability, and pain required from telling this kind of story. Miller definitely wrote with other survivors in mind as it was graphic but did not spend more time than necessary on descriptions but did share a lot of important information about the medical and legal processes. It was uplifting while still being realistic; Miller was able to work through a lot and achieve some goals, but not all. We got to see the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual effects on her and the people around her.

This book is inspiring, heart-wrenching and heartwarming, enlightening, strong, emotional, and NECESSARY. This book should be mandatory in schools/ universities. I can not begin to understand what Chanel went through, but there were many parts I identified as a woman. By telling going through what she did, letting her statement get published (how I “discovered” her), and then publishing this book, she has been a lighthouse to many people around the world—myself included. Thank you Chanel. I know your name.

“I wrote, most of all, to tell you I have seen how good the world could be”

Nationwide statistics indicate that more than 80% of women reported experiencing some form of sexual harassment/assault in their lifetime. The author shares her experience as part of that majority with a powerful and inspiring narrative.

The fact that I am not giving this five stars is not a reflection of the book or the author. This book is amazingly written and introspective. But it made me so sad and yeah maybe I shouldn't dock points off for the book doing what the author intended but I did.
