I just really love the feeling I get reading these books. The world Hayes creates is so interesting and dynamic yet cozy and inviting at the same time. I love the arcs that are starting to be introduced in the series surrounding the central mystery of the bridge (introduced in book 1), dripping out info at the right place while keeping the central plot of the book center stage. Great character development for all the party in this book, but I especially loved the arcs of Grumph and Gabrielle. Hayes also has a way of balancing engaging action sequences with all kinds of fantasy creatures and magic, with really well-written heartfelt and tender moments between characters. The overall atmosphere of all of these qualities put together made for a delightful read that built on what I liked about book 1 and made me feel invested in continuing the series.

Loved the NPC mage trial and the twist ending (for the real players). Oddly enough i just finished reading The Paper Magician by Holmberg and the idea of the bad guy being able to enchant origami was fabulous and though the worlds are absolutely not tied they are in my head now

I am devouring these books. I literally just finished the first one a few days ago, and now I'm done with this one. I thought it was very interesting, having Grumble be the one behind everything in this book. I love how deep the lore is getting around Thistle's paladinhood, and how much he is fitting into the role more and more. I hope we get to learn more about Gabrielle's cursed axe in the third book, the story behind it possibly and what the curse is that gives it all the power. The camaraderie between Timisgore and that boar Mr. Peppers is really amusing, yet very interesting. I hope that we will find out more about that mysterious pig as well.

I just really love this series. I can't wait to devour the third book. I'm not looking forward to the wait for the fourth book, though.
